In 2016, during his tenure with the Central Asia Institute (CAI), Mr. Abdul Subhan Misbah, Founder and Executive Director of SSEOA, envisioned a transformative path rooted in the belief: "Educate a woman, change the world." His visits to the remote, flood-prone terrains of Badakhshan, Afghanistan, revealed a heartbreaking reality—an absence of education, precarious livelihoods, and countless women and girls yearning for opportunities to thrive. Women’s traditional skills lay dormant, lacking platforms for dignity or income, while girls faced a future devoid of education and hope. Determined to act, Mr. Misbah established SSEOA to deliver education, life skills, and livelihood opportunities to these forgotten communities. From its humble beginnings, the organization ignited change—empowering women to reclaim their skills and girls to pursue education. Within six years, SSEOA’s work transformed the lives of over 48,000 individuals across nine provinces, becoming a cornerstone of Afghanistan’s educational landscape. Guided by its mission, SSEOA expanded its vision to integrate health, livelihoods, WASH, and climate action, recognising that sustainable development must encompass all facets of life. Today, SSEOA stands as a beacon of hope and resilience, demonstrating that education is the catalyst for enduring social and economic change.
